Bowflex now has the Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells, and they change weights by changing the dial and it will change to the weight you want so that when you lift the dumbbell of its cradle it will weigh what you want it to.

It is all in the innovative locking mechanism, a new technology that lets the dumbbell base find the right weight plates and then add them to the dumbbell and lock them into place, this way you only lift those plates off of the base.

The SelectTech 552 can change to fifteen different weight adjustments and can go from 5 pounds up to 52.5 pounts, and better still you can adust one side to a certain weight that is different from the other side. Something that is impossible to do with traditional dumbbells and all you have to do is turn the dial and you are set.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbells are very different from other adjustable dumbbells. The dumbbell is made in the following way: There is a handle and a base with ten different interlocking weight disks. When you put the handle in the base then you will notice that the dumbbell looks like a small barbell with different weights, But at each end of the bar is a dial and it is marked with numbers from 5 to 52.5, so to change the weight you just have to turn the dial to the weight that you want. When you want to change the weight again then you only have to lower the dumbbell into the base change the dial and you can pick the dumbbell back up.

The slots on the weight plates allow the handle to lock in the ones that you have chosen, and bypass the ones that are not needed.

This great new locking method is not only convenient but it is much safer than the changing of weights on conventional dumbbells. The disks are always locked into the bas and the only way they will move is if the dial is set to that weight. If the dial does not click into the weight the right way then you wont be able to lift the dumbbell.

The Bowflex SelectTech is ergonomically designed and takes up little space. It can also be very attractive, and stands higher off the ground, which puts less stress on your back. There is some assembly required and this can be a little challenging but overall this is a great product. These have a 2-year warranty on the dumbbell handle and five years on the weight plates. Weights are made of injection-molded plastic and so they are very quiet and wont damage household. Now that’s what we can call a really recommendable item.
